Where the tcboo Idea Began
The idea for tcboo began with a familiar holiday frustration: trying to keep a towel securely in place on a sun lounger.
During a Caribbean beach wedding, the wind repeatedly disturbed the towels on the loungers. Traditional towel pegs appeared to offer an answer, but they did not provide the practical and reliable solution we needed. The problem became even clearer on later cruise holidays, where plastic towel pegs could break and quickly become unusable.
There had to be a better way.
A Different Approach to Securing a Towel
Instead of developing another rigid peg, clip or narrow strap, we created a wide stretch-fabric band that fits around the towel and the backrest of the sun lounger.
At 22 cm wide, the tcboo band sits smoothly around the towel and backrest. It helps prevent the towel from blowing away or slipping down the lounger as the person using it moves.
The band is made from the type of stretch fabric used for swimwear. It contains no rigid plastic clips or pegs that can snap, is easy to pack and is designed to be washed and used repeatedly.
Developing tcboo in Leicester
Turning the idea into a finished product required a combination of textile knowledge, manufacturing experience, sampling and practical testing.
Drawing on more than three decades of experience in textiles and manufacturing, we developed the shape, width, stretch and construction needed to create a band that would fit securely while remaining simple to use.
The fabric is cut, printed and sewn in Leicester. Finished bands are made and packed in Leicester—not imported as finished products.
Protecting an Original Design
Developing an original product also meant protecting the work behind it. The tcboo design is protected by registered design rights in several markets, together with a United States design patent.
This protection helps us continue developing the product, supporting UK manufacturing and building relationships with retailers, travel companies, hotels, cruise operators and other organisations.
tcboo Today
What began as a solution to one irritating holiday problem has developed into a growing range of more than 150 designs at the time of writing.
The collection includes colourful patterns, holiday themes, family designs and bands for different interests and occasions. We are also developing an online personalisation service, planned for 2027, which will allow customers to create and approve their own designs using a fixed tcboo template.
Although the range continues to grow, the purpose remains the same: to provide a simple, comfortable and packable way to help keep a towel secure on a sun lounger.
